Argan oil is produced in Morocco where the women have formed cooperatives that they own and run.  Two different products are made.  One is used for culinary purposes because of its rich nutty flavor and aroma.  This one is lightly toasted and is a darker color.  The other is used topically for skin and hair care and is ingested. The nut is not roasted before extracting the oil and is a lighter color.

It has been shown to protect the skin from free radical damage caused by the sun.  It prevents burning and hyperpigmentation.  It is often used as a moisturizer because of its hydrating action of retaining water in the skin.
